Welcome to the First Edition of ‘The Social Scene’.
Greetings! As we dive headfirst into this inaugural edition of ‘The Social Scene,’ I can’t help but reflect on how the past few months have been a whirlwind of excitement and hard work. Setting up a new business is no small feat - think new website, social media accounts, branding galore, and an endless list of to-dos. Yet amidst all this hustle and bustle, I've made it a priority to update my skills. After all, even with years of experience in marketing and sales, staying sharp is key!
One of the joys of this journey has been the opportunity to work with new clients across diverse industries. I've enjoyed every moment of collaboration. Speaking of excitement, I am eagerly anticipating a field trip to France to meet one of my new clients and experience their breathtaking holiday offerings firsthand (because who doesn’t love a little work-cation?). Plus, there’s a photoshoot lined up which promises to be as fun as it sounds—stay tuned for some stunning shots!

I’ve also had the privilege to team up with an inspiring start-up business led by the wonderful Nikki. Her heartwarming backstory fuels her passion for her venture, and I cannot wait to see her business soar to new heights. With enthusiasm and determination like hers, success is just around the corner!
In April, I took advantage of a couple of sunny weeks working from a delightful location. The moment I settled into my new workspace, I looked up to find a picture on the wall that resembled my business logo. Talk about a sign! Facebook Messenger:
Great news from Facebook! They’ve increased file sharing capabilities in the Messenger app to a whopping 100MB. That’s right - now you can send not just memes and photographs, but also Word documents, Excel sheets, and PDFs without breaking a sweat.
X/Twitter:
In our topsy-turvy world, distinguishing fact from fiction has become a task akin to finding Wally in a crowded beach scene. Thankfully, X has introduced a new rule: starting in April, parody accounts must include ‘parody’, ‘fake’, ‘fan’, or ‘commentary’ at the beginning of their account names. This can only be a good thing.
LinkedIn:
Attention, LinkedIn aficionados! Premium users can now integrate Calendly directly into their profiles. This means potential clients can book appointments with you effortlessly. Calendly is a great tool - you can embed it for free on your website. If you’re not using it you really should be!
Engagement Issues:
Let’s face it - the struggle is real when it comes to engagement rates. Instagram's engagement has plummeted by 28% year-over-year, dropping to a mere 0.50%. Facebook isn’t off the hook either, as its post-sharing average has dipped from 15 shares per post in 2023 to 13 in 2024. It appears the algorithm is no longer prioritising shareability, so if you’re aiming for organic success, targeting Facebook Groups may just be your golden ticket. (Source: www.socialinsider.io). It is becoming more and more difficult to achieve greatness with organic reach – but consistency of posting and variety in content is key.
